Still 2 months

Alice is a strong little thing, holding her head up just fine and making attempts to stand when we hold her up. She smiles all the time and even giggles. She's fascinated by her crib mobile...recently, John used the remote control to start it up again while she was under it, and he heard her gasp. So cute! She babbles and tells us stories, and her BFF is a mylar balloon that lives above her changing table. She smiles at it and talks to it every morning.

She's also really expressive. I've finally gotten around to organizing her photo webpage, so you can see evidence of that here: http://aliceteagan.shutterfly.com

This week, Alice visited her great-grandparents. Papa actually held the baby! She has also gone grocery shopping, and visiting with friends. Many adventures in the big, big world.

Two months!

Alice turned two months old yesterday. Mama had no idea just how traumatic shots would be. Poor bitty baby. :(

Pictures are updated - now including video!

7 Weeks!

John pointed out that I haven't updated Alice's blog in months. She's out and making a name for herself now. At some point, I'll throw her birth story on here. For now, I just wanted to record that she and John are in the bedroom and she's telling him all sorts of stories.

She makes me swoon.

35 weeks

We had an excellent ultrasound yesterday. Bit remains head down, and according to the doctor, her growth is "perfect." So is my fluid level. The ultrasound estimated her to be about 5lbs, 11oz! They want to start seeing me once a week for Non Stress Tests, just to be proactive - they see nothing wrong with the baby at all, but we've had so many small complications they want to err on the side of caution.

John and I finished up our childbirth class this weekend. Next up: Infant & Child Care, Breastfeeding, and Infant CPR.

The car seat arrived yesterday and will be installed this week. The furniture is all here. My mother and sister hosted a lovely baby shower for us last weekend, and Bit's got a ton of loot just waiting until she can fit into it.

I can't believe how close we're getting.

31 Weeks

I had both my 3 hour glucose tolerance test and my 31 week midwife appointment yesterday.

The glucose test was the suck. Especially the part where I thought I was going to faint and had to find a place to lay down. I'm a wuss. I had it done at the hospital, though, where the phlebotomists know what they're doing, so I only had to be stuck 6 times for 4 vials of blood.

The excellent news coming out of that is that I passed with all levels well within range. And that means no gestational diabetes for me.

The midwife appointment was all good news as well. I've actually lost another pound in the past two weeks, but Bit seems to have gone through a little growth spurt despite that. My fundal height increased 4cm in 2 weeks, instead of the 2 we'd expect. It could also just be the measurement - not really an exact science. My blood pressure is actually getting better as we go along.

The midwife said I'm "doing a good job growing this baby."

Bit's a girl!

We got real confirmation at a recent ultrasound that this baby's a girl. We're excited! (Although a little daunted by all the pink.)

At the most recent ultrasound, we also got confirmation that baby is head down. Since I'm now 30+ weeks, I hope she stays that way. Everything else looked perfect - her growth is right on target.

Mama failed her 1 hour glucose test and needs to go back for a 3 hour. Besides that, everything's good. No weight gain this month but no loss, either. I'm waddling a bit because of where she's sitting. For a while there, I had some serious hip pain...thank goodness she's shifted!

John felt her move for the first time last night. She's a coy little baby, and would often stop moving whenever he put his hand on my belly. I think she had the hiccups though, because she didn't stop kicking the same spot for quite a while. Overall, she's pretty mellow and doesn't move a ton. Definitely has her moments, though, and occasionally gets in a really good one that takes my breath away.

Baby's position in my belly is particularly obvious when I'm laying on my back. At a midwife appointment last week, she started asking "Do you know where the baby ...?" and then I pulled up my shirt and she exclaimed "Yup, there she is!" It's almost comical the way this Bit pokes out at an angle. My belly button never points straight up anymore.

25 Weeks

Midwife appointment today went well. I actually gained weight this month, huzzah! Four pounds, which I thought might be a little too much, but the midwife said it's absolutely fine, given how much I'd lost.

She listened to the heartbeat with the Doppler, and shortly after the sound came on, Bit started flailing around. "You know why?" asked the midwife. "He or she can hear that!"

Babies are SO COOL.

22 Weeks

Time for another ultrasound!

They got some great scans this time, including a perfect full-body profile, and a sharp picture of the spine. Bit was slightly more cooperative this time, though still a little camera shy.

Growth is perfect, right around where baby ought to be for the due date. The hematoma that was giving me some trouble is completely gone now. They will continue to monitor fetal growth via ultrasound, thanks to hyperemesis that just won't quit.

Bit is kicking like CRAZY these days. Particularly after I eat. Which is ironic, considering how often food makes me ill. But yes, I feel lots of flutters and little pokes, and there's occasionally a jab that takes my breath away because it's so strange and cool and unexpected.

21 Weeks - Bit's First Shopping Trip

John and I went to Target last night for some random stuff, and as we walked up and down aisles a teeny tiny little stocking cap and booties caught my eye. It was on clearance and cheap, so John relented and put it in the carriage. Then we happened to go through the shoe section and found Converse One Stars in baby sizes. It took a little less time for him to relent on those. Bit now has his/her very own pair of Chucks black sneaks. Size One. Come ON.

Anyway, we also got a pair for Gerry & Emily's new kid, and this led to our looking for an outfit for their baby that matches what his daddy wears all the time. And -this- led to our scouring the clearance racks for stuff for our own baby. So Bit now has a Patriots onesie with workout pants for football season. And a little BC romper.

We didn't want to go crazy...plenty of time for that. So a lot of stuff went back on the rack no matter how much my heart bled to give it up. But I'd totally be lying if I said I would not be fawning over this stuff at various points between now and May.

Also, I've felt random movements for the past couple of weeks, but starting a couple of days ago, Bit's been all zoomy in my womb-y. SO much movement. It's weird and almost tickly except it isn't. I don't know what zie's doing in there, but it's extremely involved.
